Product/Sector: PEM Corporate Finance is a leading independent corporate finance specialist based in Cambridge. They work primarily with owner managed businesses in East Anglia, the Home Counties and London, advising on all aspects of corporate finance transactions, from mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and company sales to management buy-outs (MBOs).

Activity: Telephone depth interviews with a sample frame of previous clients as selected by PEM Corporate Finance. The sample included intermediaries and a small number of "failed", declined and non-contact targets also.

Project Brief : To gain first-hand perceptions and experiences from previous clients, intermediaries and a small number of prospective customers, which failed at pitch stage, to improve PEM Corporate Finance's understanding of its service delivery. To enable changes to be made to improve the approach at pitch and handling stages and thereby support the planned growth strategy

Idea/Approach: A high response rate was received and those interviewed were willing to discuss their experiences and perceptions in great detail during the telephone depth interview

Results/Outcome: The research findings identified potential improvements that PEM CF could make to improve its service and its delivery to the marketplace.

There were clear deliverables in terms of respondents more than willing to provide testimonials and references.

Potential improvements to approaching the pitch and handling stages were also identified from the feedback gained.

PEM Corporate Finance was well perceived by the majority of the sample. This was borne out by the willingness of even the more critical respondents to participate in the research. A number of clear recommendations were made as a result of the research and these have been actioned by the Corporate Finance team.
